Woodwind & Brass Auditions
Prospective new members of the Herd of Thunder and current members desiring to change instruments, please follow the procedure below to audition for the Herd of Thunder.
Please review the following:
2024 woodwind and brass audition materials will be posted by April 15th for prospective new wind members and returning wind members who would like to audition to change instruments. PLEASE NOTE that all auditions will take place via video submission and are due no later than June 14th.
All instructions are included in the materials—please read and follow them carefully.
You will see three separate folders when you click the audition materials link below, and you will need to access your instrument’s part from each one (etude, Fight Song, and March Victorious). Your section leaders will begin contacting you starting in April to be sure you are comfortable with the audition process and answer any questions.
Audition procedure for woodwind and brass:
1. Audition materials will be made available to students by April 15th. Materials will include:
A. USF Fight Song
B. March Victorious
C. One performance piece from a previous HOT halftime show
2. All New Winds and Returning Winds – Changing Instruments must audition via video-submission. Applicants are only permitted to submit one video recording, and this video must include the full audition requirements outlined above. Video Recordings must be uploaded to YouTube (be sure the file is marked “unlisted” for public viewing) and emailed to HOTAuditions@gmail.com. You must announce your name at the start of the video, whether you are a New Wind or Returning Wind – Changing Instruments and you must be visible for the entire recording.
3. All video auditions are due no later than June 14th, 2024.
4. After June 14th, the Directors will review all video auditions together. Once your video has been reviewed, you will receive one of the following messages no later than July 1:
A. Congratulations and Welcome to the Herd of Thunder Marching Band. Part assignments and alternate positions will be determined on Sunday of band camp by a Music Assessment.
B. Thank you for auditioning for the Herd of Thunder Marching Band. At this time, your audition is not up to the level required to be a member of the program. You are welcome to re-audition next year.
Color Guard & Feature Twirler Auditions
Colorguard auditions will take place in person. Please click the button below to access colorguard audition information.
Colorguard auditions will take place on May 11th from 10am – 6pm. Location is TBD and will be sent out via email once a place has been decided. For more information please click below.
Drumline Auditions
Drumline auditions take place during the summer. Audition materials and procedures will be posted via the link below.
Summer drumline dates & times (TBD):
- May 18th: 3:00pm – 7:00pm
- June 22nd: 3:00pm – 7:00pm
- July 13th: 3:00pm – 7:00pm
- August 10th – 14th (AUDITIONS): 8:00am – 5:00pm
- August 18th – 24th (Band Camp): 8:00am – 5:00pm
